Online course

Dear Colleagues

I'm delighted to say that the University of Leeds is supporting a rerun of my massive open online course, now titled: Physical Theatre: Meyerhold and biomechanics. This course originally ran in March last year and was warmly received by thousands of students all over the world (from over 90 countries). It includes practical exercises, taught through animation and video lecture, theoretical and historical input and conversations (both live and recorded) with recognised theatre historians and practitioners working in the field of Physical Theatre(s) and Meyerhold.

This version of the course is a little leaner and will have a live discussion with Meyerhold historians Robert Leach and Amy Skinner (amongst others).  It has also just recently been accredited by the CPD Certification service as 12 hours CPD if students are interested in this.

I'd be very grateful if you would be prepared to share this with your students and other networks. Theatre and disciplines of embodied learning generally are not well represented in the field of massive open online courses (and not just for the obvious reasons). And I hope this course can make a very small contribution to rebalancing that. But it is also great fun to be mixing with so many different people with different backgrounds, sharing one focus for learning for a short time.

 *   It runs for three weeks from January 26th 2015
 *   Is taught entirely online
 *   You can register in one click
 *   It takes up to 4 hours work a week, but this is up to the student
 *   And it's completely free (had I said that?)

You can register and find out more here:

https://www.futurelearn.com/courses/physical-theatre

Many thanks for your time

And Well Done from me, too...

Great to see you all working so well together on the stage, and really beginning to flex the material around the structures of rehearsal, text, lighting and space.
You should all be proud of your achievement - very positive reactions from audiences too.

Onwards and Upwards!!!

Well done

Well done all, i really enjoyed your shows. I hope you have learnt from the process and feeling really proud of yourselves.
See you all on Thursday at ivy brook.

If you are stuck with how to go about the work for assessment for this unit, start with reading. How do other people rehearse scripts, how does your experience compare and what has been your learning curve? Links on the blog and bibliography on brief to help get you started.

Well done

STUDENT UNION POSTS!!!!

Message from Dan Simmonds -
As you may know, the Students' Union has recent opened nominations for student elections to eight leadership roles. The successful candidates will receive training and gain skills which will enhance their graduate prospects whilst fulfilling a role central to the shaping of the learning experience at Northbrook College.
If you know a student who you think might be interested in taking on one of the roles then I urge you to encourage them to complete a nomination form. This is the first set of elections run by the SU at Northbrook and it would be fantastic if everybody at the college could work together to make sure they are a success. I have attached the nomination form and role descriptions, both of which can also be found on blackboard in the Students' Union area.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED< YOU CAN GET THE LIST OF POSTS AVAILABLE AND THE NOMINATION FORMS FROM DAN  INTHE S.U OFFICE OFF THE CANTEEN, OR  EMAIL LISA AND ASK FOR A COPY!!!
