Advertising show
Hello all, please send me info/poster so that i can help advertise your show to ba's. You might also ask one of the third years to put it on their Facebook page. I would sell it as fun break from dissertation writing. Also ask musical theatre tutors to put-on their blackboard and Facebook pages.
well done again really enjoyed today. Keep working to make it excellent.
Notes from run 28.5.15
Running time: 14 35
harry: the baseball joke i've heard it before.
little more of an intro and banter with audience? we need a bit more context about what this is and what show about. i think we need to know that there will be monologues too.
great energy in james' entrance but watch diction.
where did dog go when you start jokes?
chris; are you projecting somewhere bigger? will you keep coming back with more ideas to sell to us?
sam you didn't greet us, should you? watch diction and slow down. slow down the routine with the poo and dog. really act the dog and the first interaction.
not sure the bullet firing is funny.
Why is harry not coming in between acts to introduce????
Chris Yes clever man inventor film funny, hope there's lots more.
Jonathan, your props have to be ready i think waiting too long… have you tried a clown nose to go with this? worth rehearsing with one to find your clown. is there music to go with your piece?
i'm not sure that we will understand that superhero is a job.
if you are using broom use it creatively throughout and practise the falls so that they are impressive.
maybe get lots of volunteers in com media style to help with removing bin from your head.
should there be any overlaps? seems a bit stilted one after the other.
dan and laura work on sounds they are good and perfect movement routines.
Laura don't corpse!
Sam and Yvette, make sure sight lines are ok for your piece so we don't miss the details.
sam decide on sightlines; do you communicate with audience, do you greet us? Yvette don't corpse!
Sam good can you make really long line for heartbeat?
Don't let it drop! Transitions need work. is it harry, is it a clown? does he keep sweeping? is it more films?
G what are you wearing? 'just a thought' good device, keep working it?
the yea's. really warm up crowd get them to do it?
but you're not doing 'the walk' during rap?
not sure it's ok for all of you to just walk off?
Harry little teleshopping thing? not enough of an intro
Teleshoppers don't corpse!
Teleshopping bit too long. get more suggestions from audience?
and how do you end it? something to sell?
Yvette nice simple intro. can you develop it more? why are you telling us your stories maybe?
i like the vowels but 'mental cow' weaker punchline perhaps. what else might you sound like?
Good maybe a little more work on the pregnancy test; why is it in your bag….
Paige 'i like children but couldn't eat a whole one' weak punch.
Not sure ending is as strong as rest of material
.
Paige & yvette song really strong but needs practice. not sure ending is strong.
Laura, is there a link there to do with hating your job?
How about some material about your training experiencE? to tie in the sketches to do with acting? and the hating the jobs?
Dumb waiter scene good needs work on routine to be sleek and more detailed.
Dan, six or sixty? diction!
Some of the material is quite weak and needs more work. not sure the children thing is polished or ready.
Harry indicator joke have heard it before. make sure all your material is original or acknowledge that it isn't….

Sad Clown
I really enjoyed the commedia dell 'arte workshops and have come up with on idea for the show.
I want to be a sad clown character whose job is to sweep after the show i find an old copy of newspaper and look at the jobs page. i act out a few of the advertised jobs e.g superhero which do not go well - i end up by trying to sweep up the light which i have seen on a youtube clip (emmett kelly - caught sweeping up the light )
what do you think?
- on to stage sweep up at end of show .
- say goodbye harry
- prop , mirror , ( newspaper) , table and chair make up
- look mirror sad want to be in a show
- put on clown makeup
- look newspaper
- see jobs- think give it a go!
- 1st job- super hero- think of (fall over) comedy routine
- second job - think of comdey lover routine (hit with broom)
- third job- space man - put bin on head (gets stuck)
- give up and see to light try sweep to light (end light off full dark)

Thinking about comedy
A classic monty python clip about what is funny.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjWWEaZzhPU
also, lots of books in library which discuss psychology of laughter, comedy techniques and principles of comedy. Stewart Lee a good one to watch for deconstructing his own comedy and jokes as well.
This is a good one:

Unit 6 (Vanessa's idea)
I want to proceed with the idea of turning our performance into a comedy exploration. It would involve each of us trying different types of what supposedly is comedy. (Chris, if you could post the picture of the types of comedy from the board...if you took it) You can still do stand-up, in which they would explore what is it about each of the stand-ups that makes them laugh. Also, are they really laughing or going along with? Do they know why they are laughing? Is it the joke or the way it is delivered?
Please consider this idea or at least give a shot. To me, it feels like it would gel everything nicely, without over complicating things, due to how we were trying to structure it.
From yours and truly G
