Unit 2a- Mission - Yvette Saunders

Unit 2a- Mission – Yvette Saunders

For naturalism I have found a book source (Roose-Evans, 2013) in which he writes about an array of practioners including Stanislavski and The School of Realism. The writing is informative, factual and educational talking about Stanislavskis influences and how he came up with ‘the system’ and the Moscow Art Theatre. I found what I read really interesting, its good to have some background knowledge to put the practical acting techniques into context. The book was first published in 1970 and written for educational purposes for those interested in theatre practioners. James Roose-Evans is a British director and writer.

For symbolism I found an e-journal source (Tisdel, 1920) in which he writes about what symbolism is and how it came about. He also writes about and compares the practioners Gordon Craig and Reinhardt, the advantages and dis-advantages of symbolism using examples of famous productions.  Tisdel also references other sources and useful information. Tisdel wrote this piece in 1920 for John Hopkins University Press.

This image I found on a blog discussing Edward Gordon Craigs exhibition in the V&A Theatre Galleries. It is a review on the opening and opinion based. It was an interesting article, I would have liked to have been there myself to have gathered my own opinions, but the images were what I was looking for; an example of Gordon Craigs set design as we are learning about symbolism. The blog was written in 2010, Petherbridge is an Actor, writer and artist.
